Choosing the Right Running Clothes
Clothing is one of the most essential factors that can affect a runner's performance. Whether you are new to running or a veteran in the sport, you may want to check out these tips so you can select comfortable clothes when you run.
The most important clothing element in your arsenal should be your footwear. Make sure your running shoes fit properly and provide the support and cushion your feet require. Also, break in the shoes in your home before you use them during your running sessions; unbroken shoes can cause blisters.
Your clothes are your next priority. Running shorts, running tights, long-sleeved or short-sleeved shirts, or tank tops are the usual choices. Most new runners wear cotton shirts and pants. These are not recommended since cotton clothes absorb sweat and do not dry quickly. As they absorb sweat, they become heavier. A better albeit more expensive alternative is to buy running attire that are made of synthetic materials that allow your skin to breathe. Rather than absorbing sweat, these materials also wick away sweat from your body.
Choose shirts that are not too tight so you can breathe easily as you run. Note too that running clothes that are too tight can cause chafing. Wear light-coloured running clothes to stay cool as you run. Dark-coloured clothing, on the other hand, absorbs heat and makes you feel uncomfortable. Also, when running during cold weather, dress in layers. Dressing this way allows you to remove each layer as you get warmed up.
Finally, don a good pair of running sunglasses to keep your eyes shaded and protected from the sun. Another recommended item to wear is a sweatband to keep moisture on your forehead from running into your eyes.
